.kiddos.

Here are some recent pictures of the kids...

Daniel got 4 top teeth in one week! They're so cute and really make him look like a big boy now.

He's pretty good at feeding himself, which is convenient for me, but he is REALLY messy! Here he is flexing his "guns."

Very focused...and look at that double chin!

We went to a local Fall Festival on Halloween, and Kathryn was VERY excited that she got to wear lip gloss with her princess dress (hence the enormous smile)

She devoured the cotton candy

More House Pictures

The house is coming right along. Since I'm never over there during the day when people are actually working on it, it seems like the house elves come every day and do an amazing amount of work that magically appears each night. Two days ago they dry-walled the whole house, then yesterday they got all the siding done! Amazing. So here are some before and after pictures:

The builder said the duct work was a nightmare on this floorplan since there's hardly any room up there. It looked like a huge spider up in the rafters.

And here are some pictures from today...

Home sweet home....soon! I'm not sure what's next...probably priming then maybe cabinets? We'll see!

Hodges Dairy Farm

We headed off this morning to Hodges Dairy Farm to do one last pumpkin pickin' before the end of pumpkin season. Here are a few pictures...

Kathryn "driving" the tractor (I like this new trend of actually smiling for the camera!)

This is the first time Kathryn has actually fed an animal without freaking out...these baby goats were so cute and were eating leaves from the ground.

Little Boogie

Just Chillin' together

House Pics

I am really amazed at how fast the exterior of the house has gone up. From foundation to this in maybe a week and a half! Here are two views from the street (eventually there will be another house directly on the left, but it's an open lot for now)

The view from the back of the house...you can just barely make out the church building through the trees. Our property pretty much stops at the black fence, but all the woods behind us will remain intact, which is nice.

Little Mommy

Kathryn has been very into "holding" Daniel recently, which cracks me up because they look about the same size when she's holding him. She was trying to give him a bottle the other night and I thought it was so funny. I think Daniel gave up after a while.

We're Moving!

The biggest thing on our plate right now is that we are building a new house! Originally we weren't thinking about moving so soon, but through a series of circumstances, we decided that this would be a good time to buy. We are so excited about this house, as it is a 2 minute walk from Nick's office and backs up to woods. And we are also thrilled that good friends of ours are buying our house, which will make moving from our first home a little easier emotionally. So I'll post pictures periodically...it should be done sometime in January!!

Miss K

Last night Miss Kathryn had quite the adventure. At around 2:30am, I woke up to her screaming in her room. I went in to comfort her because I figured she had had a bad dream. She wanted me to lay in bed with her (her toddler bed, which is the same size as a crib), so I did and sang her a song. I tucked her in and climbed back into my own bed. Then at 3:30 I woke up to sounds of happy playing coming from the monitor. Thinking she sounded a little too awake to not check on her, I found her playing with several toys, with the light on, WIDE AWAKE. She said something like, "Hi Mommy. I get up now?" to which I groggily replied something like, "Kathryn, what in the world are you doing?!?! It's the middle of the night!!" After putting her back in bed, turning the light back off, hearing protests that it was "too dark to see" (yes, my dear, that's the point...), I got back into my own bed, by this point a little wired myself. Just as I was falling asleep, I heard happy play noises again from the monitor, and too tired to care, I just turned the monitor off, figuring she'd fall asleep when she was tired enough. Then this morning at 6:00, I saw her light on under the door. Not knowing what I would find, I saw this: (see picture below)

Light on, Sleeping on her wooden trunk (with head and feet both hanging off), pants and diaper off (she told me later they were soggy so she had to take them off), toys out from the closet, and books on her bed. But at least she was covered up nicely with her bunny. I couldn't help but laugh and snap the picture. What a goof.

Daily life with Kathryn is wonderful and challenging both. She has officially entered the "why" stage, wanting to know "Why is grass green? Why do strawberries have seeds on the outside? Why do leaves turn colors in the Fall? Why do I have to obey mommy? Why does the cricket make a funny noise? Why are there weeds in the garden? Why is Daniel crying? Why do I have to stay in my bed?" etc. I am fascinated at how her little mind is wrapping around life concepts as she's trying to figure out the world around her. I'm finding that I have to think about things that I would have never given a second thought to, in order to find answers to some of her questions. And of course there are the times where my answer is "that's just the way it is."

As she's learning to do more things, she's very into doing things herself. Trying to get dressed, feeding herself, taking a shower by herself (sort of), feeding Daniel, pushing the stroller, opening the door for me, buckling her carseat strap, brushing her teeth...the list goes on. An interchange that happens several times a day:
K: I do it!
Mommy: Say, "May I do it?"
K: May I do it?
Most of the time I appreciate her interest in doing things herself, but she gets very frustrated when she can't quite do things on her own that she wants to. All part of growing up, I guess.

In the last few weeks, it's been wonderful for me to see a little friendship forming between Kathryn and Daniel, where Kathryn is suddenly much more interested in him. It melts my heart when I hear her saying in her sweet little voice, "It's okay, Daniel, don't cry Buddy." or "No, that's not a good toy for you- you might choke on that. Here's a good toy for you, Daniel Boy." She loves making him laugh, and he soaks up the attention from her.

Any time I am tempted to be weary in my mothering of a 2 1/2 year old, I remind myself of how quickly this stage will pass. And I'm sure there will come a day when I will really miss these days. So I'm trying to enjoy every moment I can, lingering in the snuggle times and play times together. How I love this girly!

Daniel Boy

I can't believe I haven't posted in over a month! I am probably overdue for some life updates, so first some of the littlest in our bunch- "Daniel Boy" (as we usually call him) is now 7 1/2 months old! Is that possible?? What a blessing this little guy has been to us. He continues to be a very easy-going baby, although he's starting to show a little more feisty-ness, usually when a toy is taken from him or when he's waiting to eat...he gets really mad. But since those are really the only times he ever cries, I think it's kind of cute. He is really into playing with little toys (more like just putting everything in his mouth), and can stay quite content with the little basket of baby toys. He is mostly still taking two naps a day, although sometimes I end up keeping him up and just giving him one long afternoon nap. Thankfully he's pretty flexible and can go either way. He's sitting pretty well now and starting to "army crawl" more and more. He's very happy now that I've been giving him baby food. He LOVES Kathryn...it is so cute to see the two of them together. She can usually get him to laugh, even if he's fussy. His face just lights up whenever she's around. So I think I've already gotten replaced as number one in his eyes. :)

Enjoying the beautiful Fall weather...first time in the swings!

Two cute little teeth on the bottom!

I love this picture...I don't know why. I guess it's the "tough guy" look.

After looking at pictures of Kathryn from this age, I realized that I could put him in the highchair...I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. He just still seems like such a baby to me, and Kathryn seemed so old at every stage. I guess that's what happens with baby number 2.

Couponing

Over the last year and a half, I have been slowly getting into using coupons and try to save money on our grocery and household bills, and I've been amazed at the savings available through rebate programs like what Rite Aid has. Below is a Rite Aid shopping trip yesterday that totaled $5.50 after coupons and rebates. What a blessing to be able to purchase all these things we will use for so little...

What I never have been into is clipping coupons for food items, figuring I was saving more money just shopping at Aldi and finishing my trips at Bi-Lo or Bloom. But for fun I tried using coupons for triple coupon week at Harris Teeter, and below is what I was able to get for $1.15 after coupons and vouchers. I was floored. And the neat thing is that it's items we will really use, like pasta, yogurt, frozen veggies, brown rice, biscuits, tuna fish, fruit snacks, among other things. I think I might be convinced...

A few more pics...

Abi Lechner and Daniel. Hmmm, future rehearsal dinner picture?

Hmmm, I think they are a little big for this. Kathryn thought it was so funny to both be swaddled up (the funny thing is that they are each wearing the blankets they wore in the hospitals...how they grow quickly!!)

Mr. D taking pride in his double chin. He's what you'd call, "solid"

.little miss.

Sorry for the lack of posts of late...life has been keeping us busy! Between church meetings starting back up, preparing for a women's ministry meeting, playing with the symphony this week, coupon clipping, potty training, reading library books and snuggling on the couch with the kiddos, blogging has taken a bit of a back seat this month. But here are a few recent pictures of Kathryn. As you can tell, she is full of personality!

"Bunny" and "Pink Blanket"...heaven forbid if something ever happens to them!

She was practicing dressing herself with my shirts that were sitting in a nearby clothes basket...I think she had 6 or 7 of my shirts on at the same time. What a booger. She makes me laugh! (Note Nick's socks on as well)

a few more pics...

Here are a few more pictures from our Outer Banks vacation...love the beach!
